My name is Ryan Kramer and I am the owner of Alpen Tree Experts. I grew up in New Hampshire and have always loved trees and nature since my earliest memories. While attending the University of Maine at Farmington and studying environmental science, I worked as a ski instructor at Sugarloaf USA. I continued working for Sugarloaf during the summer of 1997 as a member of the trail crew. This was my first introduction to felling trees (to cut new ski trails), operating heavy equipment and doing erosion control. Even though I moved on to do various other things after Sugarloaf, I took away a real passion for working with trees from that experience.
- I moved to the Lake Tahoe / Truckee area in the fall of 1999. Shortly thereafter, a roommate of mine with a very successful landscaping company suggested I start a defensible space business. I had helped him with some tree cutting projects and he was impressed with my knowledge of trees and felling techniques.
- In the spring of 2004, I started a business called Crystal Clear. I was doing BMP’s in the Tahoe basin as well as landscaping and defensible space. Having 4 years of landscaping experience really gave me an eye for aesthetics and helped make Crystal Clear successful. It was the defensible space aspect of this business that really took off. I was getting lots of repeat customers and referrals.
- In the spring of 2007, I left Tahoe for a short time to pursue my dream of buying a home. This brought me back to the east coast, but only for a short time. Being away from Tahoe made me realize how much I love it here. Tahoe still felt like my home, even though I was away. I moved back to Truckee in June of 2008 and started Cease Fire with a partner. With a lot of hard work and determination, Cease Fire became a highly successful tree business. In 2010 I was able to purchase my partner’s share of the business and turn Cease Fire into a full service tree company with a passion for the highest quality work at competitive prices. In 2012 I changed the business name from Cease Fire to Alpen Tree Experts to better reflect the full scale nature of what the company has become.
- To this day, I remain obsessed with continuously educating myself to be the best in the business. Being a certified arborist opens the door for a myriad of learning opportunities. Also, continuing educations units (CEU’s) are mandatory for me to remain a certified arborist. I take being a certified arborist very seriously and look forward to putting my knowledge to work for you.
