What to Expect When You Work With Alpen Tree Experts

Tree work can feel uncertain if you are not sure what will happen or who is making decisions. At Alpen Tree Experts, we keep the process straightforward, transparent, and guided by an ISA Certified Arborist from start to finish.

Whether you need a single hazardous tree removed, defensible space created, or a full lot prepared for construction, the steps are consistent so you always know what comes next.

Step 1: Contact and Initial Conversation

Everything begins when you reach out.

You can contact us by phone or through our online form. During this first conversation, we will:

Ask what prompted your call
Clarify which services you are interested in
Get basic details about your property and location
Determine whether there are obvious safety concerns or time-sensitive issues

If the situation involves an urgent hazard, such as a tree on a roof or blocking access, we will note that and adjust our response accordingly.

Step 2: On-Site Evaluation by an ISA Certified Arborist

Next, we schedule a site visit. An ISA Certified Arborist or experienced estimator comes to your property to walk the site with you, listen to your concerns, and inspect your trees and terrain.

During this visit we may:

Assess tree health, structure, and visible defects
Identify hazards such as lean, decay, or root issues
Discuss wildfire risk and defensible space requirements
Look at access for equipment and crew
Talk through your goals for light, views, and future use of the property

You are encouraged to ask questions. We want you to understand why certain recommendations are made, not just what they are.

Step 3: Clear Recommendations and Written Estimate

After the evaluation, we prepare a clear, written estimate that outlines:

Which trees or areas are included
The type of work to be done (removal, pruning, mastication, stump grinding, defensible space, etc.)
How debris will be handled
Any special considerations, such as crane use or tight access
Pricing and basic scheduling expectations

We will explain the estimate and answer any questions you have. If there are options, such as completing work in phases or combining services to save time, we can discuss those as well.

Step 4: Scheduling and Preparation

Once you approve the estimate, we schedule the work. Before the crew arrives, we may:

Confirm dates and approximate arrival times
Review any access needs such as gates, parking, or road restrictions
Note special requests, including pets, parking, or neighbor coordination

You do not always need to be home while we work, but it often helps at least for the initial walkthrough. If you will be away, we can confirm details in advance and follow up afterward.

Step 5: Professional Tree Work on Site

On the scheduled day, our crew arrives with the equipment needed for your project. Work on site typically follows this pattern:

Walkthrough and confirmation: We confirm the scope of work with you if you are present, review any last-minute questions, and identify sensitive areas such as garden beds, structures, or features that need protection.
Safety setup: We establish work zones, set up cones or signage as needed, and position equipment to protect your property and allow efficient work.
Tree work and vegetation management: Depending on your project, this may include:
- Climbing and sectional tree removal
- Crane-assisted removal for large or hazardous trees
- Structural pruning, thinning, or clearance pruning
- Brush mastication and fuel reduction
- Stump grinding
- Defensible space work and fuel cleanup
Ongoing communication: If site conditions or safety considerations require a change in approach, we will explain why and how that affects the plan before proceeding.

Step 6: Cleanup, Final Walkthrough, and Next Steps

When the work itself is complete, we focus on cleanup and final details. This includes:

Gathering and chipping brush if specified in the estimate
Cutting larger wood into agreed-upon lengths or staging it in a designated area
Grinding stumps if that is part of the plan
Raking or blowing work areas to remove small debris as conditions allow

If you are home, we walk the property with you to review what was done and confirm that work matches the estimate. If you are away, we can follow up with photos or a recap.

We can also talk about:

Future pruning cycles or maintenance
Additional defensible space work or fuel reduction that may be needed later
Bark beetle protection for high-value pines and firs
