Our journey began when founder Ryan Kramer — then an environmental-science student and seasonal ski-area trail crew member in Maine — discovered a calling for working with trees and mountain terrain. That early experience sparked a lifelong appreciation for the forest and its rhythms.
In 1999, Ryan moved west, drawn by the mountains and forests of Truckee. After helping with local landscaping and defensible-space projects, he realized there was a real need for professional, conscientious tree care in the region. In 2004 that led to the founding of the first iteration of the business.
Over time, the company evolved — growing in size, scope, and ambition. In 2012, it was renamed Alpen Tree Experts to reflect its expansion into full-service tree care with a dedication to sustainable, high-quality work.
Through every chapter, one principle has remained constant: a commitment to excellence and respect for the land.
